In our earlier sections, we targeted the skin care tips for dry skin and oily skin respectively. We are now going to discuss the skin care tips for COMBINATION SKIN TYPE.
WHAT IS A COMBINATION SKIN TYPE?
Combination skin is a blend of both dry and oily skin. People with combination skin type experience that their oily skin is concentrated in the T-zone, while their cheeks remain dry. T-zone comprises of a person’s forehead, nose and chin.
WHAT CAUSES COMBINATION SKIN TYPE?
A variety of factors contribute to the formation of this skin type but sometimes it is just genetically interpreted. In this type of skin, the causes and combination vary from person to person.
HOW TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE A COMBINATION SKIN TYPE?
This is the most common skin type. The T-zone in this skin type is oily leaving the cheeks dry. To be precise, in summer your skin is oilier and winters leave you with skin dry; in other seasons just the T-zone turns out to be oily. Your periods have an important impact in this skin type; you might have breakouts during periods but otherwise your skin would be flaky.
SKIN CARE TIPS FOR COMBINATION SKIN TYPE
As it is a combination of oily and dry skin, extra care should be taken.
- Drinks lots and lots of water. This is the best way to get flawless skin.
- The dry area should be regularly cleansed and moisturized whereas the oily part should be cleansed, scrubbed and toned to match the dry skin. Use an alcohol free toner. A gentle cleanser is suggested.
- Wash your face at least twice a day with an antibacterial face wash.
- Prefer using natural home remedies to take care of your skin.
- Scrub twice a week.
- Do not rub towel on your face, just dab dry.
- If you suffer from breakouts, use an astringent.
- Use clay masks on your T-zone. It helps in the reduction of blackhead formation.
- Using a sunscreen is a must for this skin type.

Hello there! The causes of combination skin type vary from person to person. Usually you need to consult with your doctor; that is why no specific reason can be cited as an example. But I hope the symptoms help you out! 🙂
And yes it could simply be “lots of water” but I wanted it to stand out because it is the most important amongst all the points mentioned above.
I loved your comment. thank-you! 🙂

I was asked too once by a client who buys USANA products from me on combination skin. I said follow the recommended guidelines for taking care of skin such as drinking lots of water and eating healthy low glycemic foods. For skin care, use appropriate products distinctly for the two regions for oily and dryer parts. Was that a good enough basic suggestion?
Haha. Yes that is in fact that most important one. Keeping our body hydrated is very important. 🙂
Do you have specific clay masks you recommend? I really should drink more water. This is great reminder and I will start again to drink more water. I love using masks as well. Though a clay mask has been a while ago.
Green clay masks are apt for this skin type. Also, a paste of egg white mixed with yogurt can act as a natural face mask 🙂
I’m really learning more about skin care from your blog! Never heard about combo skin types… Can it be considered the healthy type, since you got both dry and oily? 😛 Kidding aside, the tips are really helpful. Many neglect to take care of their skin and that’s not good in the long run. I can’t wait for winter when I no longer have to worry so much about my skin… Do you have suggestions also for skin that is highly sensitive?
Combination skin type is in fact one of the skin type that requires a lot more care than other skin types. For highly sensitive skin you should not use “hypoallergenic” products. 🙂
I really think that getting well-hydrated is one of the key to having a nice skin. I’m not quite sure about what kind type do I have. I have some oil on my face but not too much and not too dry as well. These are great tips that I could share with my friends as well. How do you know if a product is alcohol-free and gentle to the skin? 😀
Usually the alcohol free products have a labeling stating that they are free of it. Various terms are used for that. You can ask the respective dealer and he can definitely help you with that 🙂
I don’t really know what skin type I have. But I learned a lot from this post! I have to pay attention to the skin care products I’m using to ensure it’s alcohol-free. But as of now, my skin care routine is working for me. No problem with dryness and oiliness so far.
Glad you like it. Thank-you 🙂
What particular product or ingredients in a product do you recommend to fight this kind of combination skin type? It’s pretty interesting to know that there is such skin type. It’s my first time to hear about it.
That’s good to know. All the products that read of sulphate, alcohol and soaps should preferably be avoided.
Thanks for this great helpful tips about taking care of skin. I’m not experiencing acne or heavy pimples, but somehow I will try to take care of my skin with this tips. Thanks
I make coffee grind as my scrub twice a week

These are great tips for combination skin. I’m pretty good with my skin care but should remember the t zone clay mask more often. Thanks for reminding me how important it is 🙂
